Nexgen Packaging Kenya EPZ Limited launched a new, state-of-the art apparel brand identification and packaging factory today in Athi River, Machakos County with support from a $750,000 grant provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The new factory will boost production efficiency, create new jobs in Kenya, and increase apparel exports to the United States.
President William Ruto, U.S. Ambassador Meg Whitman, USAID Mission Director David Gosney, and Prosper Africa Coordinator British Robinson attended the launch.
Fourteen Kenyan apparel and textile businesses that have received direct support from the United States also held a “Made In Kenya ” expo. The expo showcased the huge potential of the Kenyan apparel sector to create more Kenyan jobs and increasing two-way direct trade and investments. USAID’s investments in Kenya’s textile and apparel sector have resulted in $67 million in direct investment and helped create 20,000 new jobs, marking a huge milestone in advancing shared U.S.-Kenya economic prosperity.
“I am delighted to announce that the United States through USAID is partnering with Kenya to create jobs and strengthen our entire textile sector,” said President Ruto.
“These investments by American companies create quality jobs for Kenyans, and economic opportunities for both of our countries,” said U.S Ambassador Whitman. “USAID’s investments are ensuring Kenyan prosperity through American partnership.”
